Seafarers Union of India is committed to improve the working conditions and social status of its members and commits to defend their rights through the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The MLC is a comprehensive international employment Convention adopted by the ILO International Labour Conference in February 2006
ILO is represented in over 130 countries
It applies to all seafarers that is all persons employed or engaged or working in any capacity on board a ship to which the Convention applies
Includes crew navigating or operating the ship, cadets, hotel personnel and others
For Two Reasons:
(A) Requirement of minimum wages
1. Guideline B2.2.4 states the seafarers wages must be minimumas set by Joint Maritime Commission for the position of an AB seaman per month
2. ITF & ISF have agreed on an minimum interpretation for all positions
(B) Requirement of CBA
1. MLC uses the term SEA(Seaman's Employment Agreement) which includes:

3. It specifies entitlements such as wages, working hours, repatriation, compensation, and so on.
